RVChat - June 2011
This is my last column as your Regional Vice Chair (RVC); my second term has come to an end. Over the past four years, I have made many new friends around the region (some in person, some on-line). I have enjoyed the support of my husband, my close friends and many others – generally, everyone around the region and, in some cases, nationally. I have learned from many of you, learned new ways to do things, new ways to communicate (thank you FaceBook), and learned how unique and wonderful many Mensans are. I have learned how to relax a little when talking to new people. I have learned how to better think on my feet. I have learned how many hands make work fly by. I have learned how to better show my appreciation to those who volunteer for Mensa.

And on that note, I owe thanks to many people. Thanks to the Region 1 webmaster, Al Beecy. On behalf of the Foundation I offer thanks to Emily Gordon, the Region 1 scholarship chair, to Bill Zigos who hosted the regional scholarship judging these past four years; also thanks to the local scholarship chairs and judges. This is one of the things that Mensa does well. Thank you to those who encouraged me to create the Region 1 Facebook page and to those who act as administrators to keep it running smoothly. Thanks to Andrew Heffernan for agreeing to run for RVC; I know the region will be in good hands.
I thank all of the LocSecs and other local group officers who dedicate much of their time to this wonderful organization. All of your hard work is appreciated by myself and our members. Thanks to all of you who have given your time to make our Regional Gatherings so enjoyable. Over the past four years there have been several Leadership Development Workshops and Local Group Retreats, so a special thank you to all who helped them run smoothly.
Thanks to all the members who have made me feel welcome over the past four years and during my 21 year membership. I am still amazed when I walk into a RG’s hospitality or games room and feel right at home. I have experienced instant bonding over a game of Quiddler or Dominion at many gatherings.
And, of course, I want to express my appreciation to my husband for his support and understanding ever since I decided to run for RVC. He continues to support me and join in whatever I want to do, from hosting an event at our home to running hospitality at an RG to running for national office. We work well as a team and will continue to do so.
I hope to continue seeing many of you around the region.
