Region 1 Roundup - March 2016
News from National:
by Lisa Maxwell
Although you are reading this in March, it is January 31st as I write this from my hotel room in Arlington TX. As a member of the Finance Committee, I attended yesterday's budget review meeting for the 2016-17 fiscal year. It was a long day - 8:30a-6:00p; during that time we reviewed a lot of detailed information and fine-tuned where necessary. The experience allowed me to better understand what it takes to keep American Mensa running, and just how much our team in the National Office (NO) does to support our membership.
Creating the final approved annual budget is a process beginning with the entire staff compiling detailed cost estimates based on measurable data and strategic goals as defined by the board. Next, the Director of Finance and Executive Director pull it all together while trying to meet all budgeting requests, and the Finance Committee walks through the proposed budget line by line with the staff. Finally, the proposed budget will be shared with the entire board at the next American Mensa Committee (AMC) meeting, for discussion and approval.
March is renewal time! Don't forget to renew your membership this month. Consider a longer term membership of three or five years, or perhaps a Life Membership. To renew online login at http://us.mensa.org/join/joinnow/member-dues/
Local Group Treasurers:
Just a reminder that the Local Group financial report forms went out to local group Treasurers in January and are due back no later than March 31st. Failure to submit this form will result in funding being withheld for your chapter. Please do your best to get these completed and submitted in on time.
Local Group ExComm (Executive Committee) Members:
Is your house in order? Are your bylaw requirements being followed? Publishing calendars, financials, upcoming elections? Please review your chapter's bylaws and ASIEs (Actions Still in Effect) to insure your group is in compliance. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me directly.
