The 2016 Annual Gathering (AG) in San Diego CA has come and gone - here are some highlights…
Pre-AG Colloquium hosted by the Mensa Foundation and the San Diego Zoo on FLORA, FAUNA AND THE FUTURE
Leadership Summit - all day training for local group and regional volunteer leaders.
Spark! Three days of structured programming during the AG for children ages 4-12
Tours of San Diego, the Zoo and Safari Park, Maritime Museum, baseball, breweries and more.
Round the clock hospitality and games/tournaments.
Meet & Greets - regional, SIGS, leadership and more.
American Mensa Board of Director meeting (AMC) and Annual Business Meeting.
Speaker tracks with something for everyone - Scorpion's Walter O'Brien, talks on technology, science, past and present screen stars, history, music, debate room with various topics, and so much more.
And of course, our keynote speaker Wil Wheaton and the always clever Richard Lederer.
On Saturday at the AG, the annual Awards Ceremony was held. Our region had quite a few award winners - congratulations to all!

From film to politics, from literature to geography and from music to history, Mensan teams of up to five members gather in their neighborhoods on a single day across the U.S. and Canada and, for 90 minutes, compete for cash prizes and cultural literacy bragging rights.

The Local Group Jewels recognize and reward Local Groups' membership-related activities and for their active participation in all that Mensa has to offer to positively impact the experience of the local group members.

The Innovative Owl award is presented to the group demonstrating the highest membership retention compared to its previous year's membership numbers.
Innovative Owl, Honorable Mention - Mid-Hudson Mensa - 96%
The highest award in American Mensa is The Margot Award (http://us.mensa.org/recognize/nationalawards/margot/)
The award is bestowed "for the rendering of exceptional service to Mensa for a number of years."
This year, the American Mensa Board of Directors (AMC) awarded the Margot to Russ Bakke who for many years was a member of Region 1. Congratulations Russ and to all of this year's winners!
